Farce After Dark: a new comedy podcast

Dear Friends and Fans of Funny,

I am pleased today to announce the launch of Farce After Dark, a new podcast designed to showcase aspiring young comic writers and performers from the Toronto comedy scene.

The “Farce” idea began life several years ago as a stand-up comedy night at Ryerson University’s campus pub, The Ram in the Rye. The show ran there once a month from the summer of 2007 to the end of 2009, and served as a breeding ground for great young talents like Dave Merheje, Scott Stephenson and Stephanie Kaliner. And on occasion it even hosted bigger names like Ron Sparks, Sara Hennessy and Chris Locke.

After an abrupt cancellation due to a snap decision by a power-hungry student union employee, FAD was relaunched as a weekly column for the online Canadian cultural magazine Konekt (www.konekt.ca) where it ran for another 3 months last year.

Now in it’s new incarnation as a weekly podcast, Farce After Dark features stand-up, sketch and other silliness recorded live in clubs, theatres and bars from across the city (with the occasional piece made specifically for radio thrown in for good measure).  I host the show and string it all together. Occasionally I’ll be joined on the mic by the funny folks featured in the clips.

The goal remains the same as it was in the beginning: Provide a platform for up-and-coming Toronto-based comedians to showcase their best stuff to a wider audience.

The debut episode, a spotlight on Dan Ramos, is there for all to hear.
